📄 R1234yf Refrigerant – HFO (Low GWP, R134a Replacement)

Product Overview

R1234yf (2,3,3,3-Tetrafluoropropene) is a fourth-generation hydrofluoroolefin (HFO) refrigerant developed as the primary replacement for R134a in automotive air conditioning systems. It is a colorless, liquefied gas with a faint ethereal odor, offering similar cooling performance to R134a while dramatically reducing environmental impact.

R1234yf has gained widespread adoption globally as the leading low-GWP solution for mobile air conditioning, helping automakers comply with stringent EU regulations requiring new car A/C systems to use refrigerants with GWP below 150. It can also be used in stationary refrigeration applications such as vending machines, small commercial refrigeration, chillers, and heat pumps.

⚠️ Important Safety Note: R1234yf is classified as A2L (low toxicity, mildly flammable) under ASHRAE Standard 34. It is NOT a direct drop-in replacement for R134a – while it shares similar operating pressures, system modifications (such as component adjustments and using A2L-compatible service equipment) may be required for optimal performance. R1234yf has lower flammability than hydrocarbons like R290, allowing larger charge sizes in many applications.
